The HI!JKpop Project
Dancers and dance troupes compete for the adulation of convention fans!
We’re not a team, this is a competition! Grab your dance crew or take the stage solo in The Hi!JKpop Project: Dance Showdown. Competitors will face off in a showdown of moves you won’t want to miss as they fight to be the best. From show stopping outfits to creative concepts and overall performance skills, you just might find a new bias to stan! Please take the time to read all the information regarding registration and rules for this event before signing up. The sign-up form is available online by clicking here.
COMPETITION RULES
- You must have purchased an entry into the convention in order to enter/present on stage for The Hi!JKpop Project: Dance Showdown.
- All entrants accepted into The Hi!JKpop Project: Dance Showdown must bring a filled out Consent and Release Form (click here) to the convention team the day of the event. Attendees who do not provide this will not be allowed to compete.
- The Hi!JKpop Project: Dance Showdown is a family-oriented event. Please keep all costumes and performances to a “PG-13″ rating i.e. no nudity or overly revealing attire.
- All songs must be appropriate and should be submitted in their “public radio edited” versions without vulgarity or obscene, indecent, and profane content.
- Once a submission has been approved and accepted it cannot be changed and must be performed as submitted. No changes will be permitted which includes the song choice, number of performers, etc.
- Spots are limited for this event, though we wish we could accept everyone! The top ten (10) competitors will be chosen by the convention team based on all entries submitted. Five (5) additional submissions will be placed on a standby list in the event that any of the original ten (10) selected are not available or do not appear at the time of the event. All remaining submissions who were not selected for either the competitor spots or for the standby spots will be notified that they will not be participating.
- If selected, competitors will need to email the song they will be performing to in an already edited MP3 format that will be provided to the show technician. Songs must be no longer than four (4) minutes in length. All songs must be received no later than the convention’s deadline:
- FAN EXPO Vancouver: February 14, 2024
- WasabiCon NOLA: TBD
- WasabiCon: TBD
- WasabiCon PDX: TBD
- Song mixes are permitted, however if these are not original then proof must be provided that permission was obtained to use someone else’s mix when providing the song file.
- All competitors must report to the scheduled location at the time that will be sent over with your approval email. Additionally, you may do a sound check and preview the stage prior to the competition at a date/time that will also be included in your approval email. This is on a first come/first serve basis, so we recommend showing up early.
- Only one entry is allowed for individuals or groups. Performers are not allowed to participate in multiple submissions. (Aka “no double dipping.”)
- All weapons and props must conform with convention policies, hotel/conference center rules, and local laws concerning carrying a weapon. If there is a question of doubt, don’t bring it.
- For the safety of our performers, footwear of some sort must be worn at all times while participating in the Hi!JKpop Project: Dance Showdown. This is a requirement and bare feet will not be allowed on stage. Heels must be under 4 inches.
- For everyone’s safety, stunts are not allowed as part of the The Hi!JKpop Project: Dance Showdown and can include (but are not limited to) jumps on/off stage, front flips, back flips, throw based stunts, etc.
- Additionally, stagecraft/sets that you are unable to quickly place and remove yourself between performances are not permitted. Smaller props are allowed so long as they similarly fit within those parameters. However, our staff may not be able to assist you with this, so plan accordingly. (For example: you would be allowed to bring something like a chair onstage for your act, but not an entire backdrop.)
- Special effects including, but not limited to, fog machines, pyrotechnics, lasers, water effects, confetti, glitter, or throwing items of any type into the audience are not permitted.
- Lighting requests cannot be accepted for the Hi!JKpop Project: Dance Showdown. Please note that the Main Events room will be fully lit throughout this event and cannot be turned off, dimmed, or coordinated to specific cues as part of your act.
- Wasabi Anime reserves the right to modify, update, or amend these rules at any time.
